Yesterday, in Children's Ministries, we talked about going the extra mile. Instead of just cleaning our room, why not take out the trash too? We discussed many different ways we can show kindness in our schools, our homes, at church and in our neighborhood. One example the kids came up with is helping poor people.
There are a lot of poor people in the world. Obviously, we can't give money to every poor person. If we did that, we would run out of money very soon! But we can and should help poor people. We can help people in the neighborhood by working around their homes and giving them food. We can give money to our churches and Christian organizations to help poor people in our community and around the world. We can give our time and serve others through local mission organizations too!
God wants us to be loving and kind to people. He wants us to show His love to widows, prisoners, the poor, and the hungry. When we help poor people, we are acting like Christ. Besides, God has promised to bless those who give to the poor. If we help poor people, we can be sure that God sees, notices, and will take care of us.
It's important that we are modeling to our kids what it means to show kindness and love to others. This week talk with your families about how you can help the poor people. Here are some ideas to get you started: 1) Set aside some of your allowance money to give to your church or a Christian organization to help poor people in the community and around the world. 2) Give your time and serve as a family at a local mission organization. 3) Pray as together for poor people.
