Last Sunday we talked about the Good Samaritan from Luke 10:25-37 with your kids. Take some time this week by reinforcing the story by asking some of the following questions about the lesson:
- Had the Samaritan ever seen the injured man before?
- How did the Samaritan know the man was worth helping?
- Are we supposed to help others?
- Name two ways we can help others.
- Should we help only people like us?
- Name two ways God helps us.
- How do we learn what God wants us to do?
- Name one way you helped someone in the last week.
Take it a step further: Why should we have to save our friends when they get in trouble?
God says that we should help those who are in trouble, even our enemies. That's what it means to love, and it's how we can show others God's love. You can help your friends when they are in trouble. You can be a very good friend to them.
There's a limit to what you can do, however. Parents and other adults may need to help. You should never lie for friends or make excuses for them. Sometimes letting friends learn to solve their own problems is the best thing they can do. Ask God to show you what it means to be a good friend to each of your friends.
Activity: Pretend that one of your friends has asked you to lie. Make a pretend phone call to your friend. Tell him or her that you care about your friendship but that you will not lie- for yourself or for anyone. (If this has already happened to you, then you won't have to pretend- use that experience and make a real call.)
